CCOHS - National OHS Centre

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is Canada's national centre for occupational health and safety.

CCOHS is a not-for-profit, federal departmental corporation, governed by a tripartite Council - representing government, employers and labour - to ensure a balanced approach to workplace health and safety issues.

CCOHS develops WHMIS educational resources and tools for Canadian workplaces. CCOHS has no regulatory authority and does not enforce workplace requirements, but provides support, advice and guidance.

WHMIS Status

CCOHS has no statutory or regulatory role in occupational health and safety legislation. Our role is to act as an information resource for all parties with WHMIS responsibilities including regulators, suppliers, importers, employers and workers.

CCOHS collaborates with regulatory jurisdictions by responding to inquiries, providing education and other resources, and undertaking special projects.

For information about the status of WHMIS requirements across Canada, see Health Canada or the OSH regulatory jurisdiction pages.
