Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education is responsible for delivering effective and efficient regulatory management for the protection of the health and safety of Nova Scotians.

Many of the department's resources support inspections and monitoring activities. Our Occupational Health and Safety Officers/Hygienists enforce the WHMIS provincial requirements through workplace inspections within provincially regulated workplaces. We also have a selected number of inspectors that are designated to conduct Federal WHMIS inspection regulating manufacturers and distributors of hazardous products (formerly Controlled Products).
